Membership Involvement

AFA depends on the involvement of its members to be an effective force in advocating for Airpower and Airmen, and that involvement starts at the Chapter level. The Sam Johnson Chapter is one of the largest in the nation, and we have the potential to take a greater role in State and National activities, but we cannot realize our potential without membership involvement.

Our Chapter is led by four elected officers: President, Executive Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. These officers head up the Chapter executive body, the Chapter Council, which includes a number of appointed officers who oversee the various lines of effort of the Chapter. While the makeup is flexible, these positions currently include:

  • VP Aerospace Education
  • VP Corporate Affairs
  • VP Membership
  • VP Communications
  • VP Fundraising
  • VP Community Partners
  • VP Cyber-Patriot
  • Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Liaison
  • Active-Duty Liaison
  • Air National Guard (ANG) Liaison
  • Air Force JROTC (AFJROTC) Cadet Leadership Course (CLC)
  • Youth Leadership Conference (YLC)

One of our primary emphasis areas is education, including outreach to local high school and college students and teachers, and organizations such as the Civil Air Patrol, Youth Leadership Conference, and CyberPatriot. We offer mentorship, financial support, and scholarships and always need members with the time and contacts to work with these programs. In addition, periodic activities such as the Spring Golf Classic and other membership events present new opportunities for membership involvement.

If you’d like to get more involved in the activities of your Chapter, please join us. Our Chapter Council normally meets on the second Thursday of the month at 11:30 and is open to all members. If you’re interested in taking a leadership role or just getting more involved with the Chapter, this is a good way to get started.
